Gales have hit Scotland.
We get a lot of gales in the winter but this time, with everything in full leaf, the damage is much much worse.
Our polytunnel
which collapsed around Fiona - the winds were so strong that trays of plants we had potted for sale blew out of it.
Our orchard
my Dad gave me this greengage tree as its my favourite fruit.
Our flower beds
snapped at the base.
I'm not feeling too chipper this afternoon to say the least.
It is 10 days till we are supposedly opening up the studio and garden - 2/3 of the plants have been destroyed.
I'm not a fan of gales.
This is devastating...my heart really
goes out to you. I'm hoping my greenhouses will hold firm this time but even if they get damaged it will be nothing compared to the state of your garden.

Oh how awful I hope things improve.

How awful for you. I can only agree that thankfully no one was hurt, but the trail of destruction is hard to take. I've just been checking my allotment and greenhouse, thankfully intact at the moment but the winds are frightening. Sending you hugs.

Oh, I'm so sorry to see this. I live where there are tropical storms and hurricanes, and understand this more than I wish I did. Hang in there.

How awful for you, so upsetting, especially when you are to open your garden. Hope damage can be repaired

Jane, so sorry to see all of this, especially the tree from your dad. I hope you are able to pull everything back into some kind of shape.

Oh Jane how awful for you all. I am so sorry. I know how much hard work has been destroyed there. Damn that wind :-(

Mentioned your gale ordeal, as a little flare of blogger support, in my post today. Seems a pitifully small gesture, but felt a bit sheepish moaning when you were having it so much worse. hang in. x

How awful, the wind is so destructive. We are in Lincolnshire and lost some of our conservatory roof, a big telegraph pole came down and our chicken coop went over our neighbours fence today. I hate the wind. We seem to have had it all haven't we, the deep freeze, the drought and now the winds. Come back sunshine..

This is too sad :( oh dear oh dear, what a disaster. Nature, we can't change it can we!

Oh Jane. It's horrible isn't it. We have the wind and the rain here today and I haven't dared venture into the garden.

You poor poor thing - that's so hard. Am very sad for you, and hoping that at least some of your garden is rescuable.

Hey Jane, this is the last thing you or anyone needs, how heartbreaking.
But I'm sure everyone will pitch in and get the place looking tip top over the next ten days. There might be a few bare patches here and there but I am sure all the visitors will see past this and be inspired by your wonderful creative talents.
Wishing you sunny Spring weather to help put things to right.......

What rotten timing! Not that any time would be ok to be wiped out like this! I hope you have lots of willing helpers to get you sorted quickly! Nature has a wonderful way of healing herself. I hope all goes really well for you!

I'm so sorry to read this. I read your facebook updates avidly, but rarely comment, but this look so awful after all your wonderful work. If I was close enough, I'd come and help with the clean up.

I'm really sorry to hear about and see your photos of the gale damage - especially the greengage tree. I hope that you can rescue and restore your plants, flower beds, polytunnel and your enthusiasm!

A horrible thing to happen - I'm so sorry, & I wish you all strength & spirits to do whatever needs to be done.

Ghastly to see so much hard work wiped out . I hope it's not quite as bad as it looks .....
We've been having very high winds in Holland , too . All the little boats came into the safety of town and triple moored along the river banks overnight , after one capsized on nearby open water .
