Last night we had a proper frost - when we woke there it was, still crispy on the grass.
Walking down to the workshop at 9 the air was heady with aniseed - presumably released from frosted fennel as it thawed.
I have just come back from a walk round the garden - glowing in the late afternoon sun.
The sun is low at this time of year - sunsets are early - it has just gone six and the sun is dipping behind the hill opposite my workshop. It lights up the garden against a glowering sky.
Yet, although the frost has collapsed so much - all the cosmos and dahlias lie flat - other things have escaped.
These sweet peas look more like June than October. I am off to pick a bunch for my bedside table - prolonging the Indian Summer for a few days yet.

Beautiful Jane and can't believe you have sweet peas in October!

Our sweet peas were very late to get going this year - the first 2 sowings were blasted by very cold temperatures - they have made up for it though!

Beautiful photos, the light is wonderful. My sweet peas are just starting to flower and the best specimens are growing in the compost!
