I first came across Tiggy Fiander's business Future Primitives through Tracy at Cupcakes blog. I sent off for a catalogue and began to follow her blog detailing her plant nursery and soap making businesses. I do love businesses that try to meld two passions.
Last month, after a bumper week, I treated myself to some of her soap.
This a big event for me - books aside, I find it incredibly difficult to splash out cash on something for myself and I also have an inbuilt fear of buying something and it not living up to my hopes.
I needn't have worried - the soap is quite frankly the best soap I have ever used. It is cold process so it doesn't dissolve into a gloopy mess immediately. The photo above is of a sample that Tiggy sent - a thin slice, beautiful as a slice of agate. This tiny sliver lasted a week in the shower.
But the thing that I love about the way Tiggy works is that she spends her time sampling and recommending other soap makers - that is what I try to do here; to expand the market for the handmade rather than competing within the existing tiny one. It takes a generosity, honesty, dedication and confidence though and Tiggy has those qualities in buckets - follow her on twitter if you want more evidence.
She also lives with the very talented Matt Grimmitt - who made the beautiful slip-ware plate below
Which lives next to the wire-work chickens next to the window seat. Matt claims it is a ghost, but I know very well that it is a white indian runner duck.
Talented couple - go check them out.
Oooh that soap looks wonderful. I shall check her out Jane, thank you.
Yes it is a duck, silly Matt, what does he know?!!! ;-)

An Indian runner duck?! Matt will hoot at that!
I don't know how to thank you enough. What lovely words. I'm flabbergasted!
I know I try hard, and I know it shows (head swell!) but when somebody else sees what you're trying to accomplish it makes it all worthwhile.
I'm entirely grateful for this.
And thanks to the new twit followers. Wondered where they'd appeared from!
Thanks so much again.
Tiggy

The soap looks wonderful - and I completely agree with both of you. Much better to try to share and expand the market than fiercely protect one little corner of it. - Oh , and I love how the soap was packaged :)
